Defense Minister and Army Chief in Kashmir to review Security

Srinagar, May 17 (Only Kashmir): The Defense Minister Arun Jaitley and Chief of Army Staff Gen Bipin Rawat who are on visit to Kashmir Valley were Wednesday at Badami Bagh Cantt. briefed about the prevailing situation of state.

The duo today arrived in Srinagar to review the overall security situation in the Valley. The Defense Minister was briefed on the prevailing situation in J&K at Badami Bagh Cantt. Gen Bipin Rawat, Chief of Army Staff, and other senior Army officers were present in the review meeting. Sanjay Mitra, Defence secretary (Designate) was also in attendance.

Jaitley was apprised of the various measures to strengthen the robust counter infiltration grid along the LC. He was also briefed on the close coordination amongst all the government agencies towards bringing back normalcy in the region.

On the occasion Jaitley urged all soldiers to ensure safety of the innocent people while dealing firmly with the ‘inimical’ elements. He also impressed upon the commanders to maintain strict vigil along the LC and remain prepared to give a befitting reply to any misadventure from across.

Zakir’s Threatening Message: Govt. likely to review security of Hurriyat leaders

Srinagar, May 13 (Only Kashmir): Hours after the militant leader Zakir Musa’s threatening message to Hurriyat leaders the Jammu and Kashmir government according to the sources Onlykashmir.in received here has decided to review the security of Hurriyat leaders.

In an audio, which has gone viral on social media, considered as Burhan Wani’s successor Zakir is heard saying: “I am warning all those hypocrite Hurriyat leaders. They must not interfere in our Islamic struggle. If they do, we will cut their heads and hang them in Lal Chowk”.

The militant leader asserted that his outfit was clear in its motives of “fighting to impose a Shariat in Kashmir and not resolving the Kashmir issue by calling it a political struggle”.

Sources said that in context of Zakir’s threatening message there is a feeling in the government that a comprehensive review of the security of Hurriyat leaders is much needed.

Presently, Syed Ali Geelani who heads the Hurriyat G, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq lead Hurriyat M and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik jointly issued a statement wherein they termed the Kashmir movement as indigenous and political.

Around 18,000 policemen are deployed as guards at homes and properties of politicians including Hurriyat leaders. As many as 8,000 cops work as personal security guards (PSO) of politicians.
