Sarmiento workers strike after guard gets attacked

The Sarmiento railway has suspended its service indefinitely after a security guard was violently attacked by a passenger in one of the train formations. The strike was called unilaterally by union leader Rub n Pollo Sobrero, the Argentine Train Operator said in a statement. Sobrero said his faction decided to go on strike because they will not tolerate aggressions against passengers or railway workers.

A man was breaking one of the train formations. A security guard approached him to make him stop and ended up hospitalized. There are no excuses because the trains are new and people travel comfortably.

We can t live like in the far west, Sobrero told reporters. The service stopped at 1:30pm but was not officially announced, causing discomfort in passengers. Sobrero added a workers assembly was to be held today in order to decide when the strike is lifted.

Tomorrow, the Sarmiento railway will not provide service, as different repair works are being done on Sundays in the train until May.
