Police urge residents to get in touch after reports of people hunting hare with dogs

RESIDENTS living in south Warrington are being urged to get in touch with police if they see or hear hare coursing and lamping. This comes after occurrences were reported in the wooded area around Grappenhall Heys to Cheshire Police. Hare coursing is the pursuit of hares with greyhounds or other dogs after they see the wildlife.

Lamping meanwhile is the shining of a light around an area until a hare is spotted, and then the dog is then sent to get it. In an update, the force’s Grappenhall and Thelwall Police team said: “There have been reports of hare coursing and lamping in the wooded area around Grappenhall Heys. “If you see or hear what you believe might be this, do not approach.

Instead, ring 101 or visit the Cheshire Police website to report it.”
