Armed police called after group of men spotted with machete in Cardiff

Armed police were called to a busy road in Cardiff after reports of a group of men carrying a machete. A large police presence, including armed officers, was reported on Greenway Road in Rumney on Tuesday morning. Following a local search, a 27-year-old man has been taken into custody and enquiries are continuing.

Nobody is thought to have been injured in the incident. Reports on social media described a “massive police presence” on Greenway Road and also said armed officers were seen on nearby Hendre Road. Get more stories like this straight to your inbox by signing up to our newsletters.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said armed police were deployed “as a precaution”. They said: “At around 10.35am today a report was received of a group of three young men in possession of a machete on Greenway Road in the Rumney area. Find out about crime levels where you live:

“Officers were deployed to the area, supported by specialist armed police as a precautionary measure.

“Following a localised search, a 27-year-old local man has been taken into custody and enquiries are continuing.
