Cops hold security review meet with clubs

Recent incidents, which involved the killing of a former state president of the Student Organisation of Panjab University (SOPU), Gurlal Brar outside a mall and firing at social media star Saurav Gujjar at a bar in Sector 9, have sent UT police in a tizzy.
While they claim to have made elaborate arrangements keeping in view the growing nightlife and the ongoing festival season, two senior cops– SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal and SP City Vineet Kumar on Friday met the club and lounge managers at Traffic Auditorium in Sector 29 to discuss the security arrangements.
The move happened a day after top cops met during a tricity coordination meeting, called by Chandigarh DGP Sanjay Baniwal here. The cops who attended the meet apart from Baniwal were IGP of Ropar Range Amit Parsad, SSP Mohali Satinder Singh and Panchkula DCP Mohit Handa. The idea behind the meet was to ensure effective coordination between the cops of Mohali, Chandigarh and Panchkula.
During the Friday meet, the attendees were made aware about the action plan to curb growing violence.

The discussion was around strict following of midnight deadlines by clubs and lounges. “They were told to adhere to the guidelines set by the Chandigarh administration,” said a source.
