Navy Seaman Francisco Riveraortiz is a sonar technician responsible for hunting submarines and is one of the sailors supporting littoral combat ships in San Diego. “I enjoy finding submarines,” Riveraortiz said in a news release. “It’s neat being able to figure out where the submarine is and what type of submarine it is just by how it sounds.” For Riveraortiz, son of Jose and Delfina Rivera of Hesperia, serving in the military is a family tradition.

“My dad served in the Army during Desert Storm,” Riveraortiz said in the news release. “Growing up, I didn’t really notice how much of a military influence my father had, but later I realized that the military is just an intensified version of my pops. So, he prepared me well for military service.” Riveraortiz graduated in 2016 from Oak Hills High School in Oak Hills.
