LGIM's Onuekwusi: I've been mistaken for a cleaner, janitor and security guard

In this video, Justin Onuekwusi, head of retail multi-asset funds at Legal & General Investment Management, speaks about his experience as a black man[1] working in the asset management industry. He says although he can’t complain about his position as a fund manager, he can see that ethnic minorities, in particular, are underrepresented. Onuekwusi notes a number of times when he has been mistaken for somebody else, with people, sometimes in his own office, assuming he is a toilet janitor or a security guard.

He adds people from ethnic minorities are often not applying for roles in the industry because they cannot see people like themselves represented in the workforce.
