    Excellent!!, 24 May 2015

MOST of the reviews are correct, but thanks to diligent research on my part, these cameras fit exactly what I needed. i work from home and wanted some “eyes in the sky” to see vehicles/people approach my house. as a bonus, this kit comes with 4 cameras so for kicks i can watch my back yard too. if you’re trying to catch a criminal in the act, these are the WRONG choice. you need high end, crystal clear. these are simple video cameras, they’ll catch a person or car during the day. night vision barely works. it may catch someone roaming your yard if they’re wearing all white clothing. at least that’s my experience. the cables are cheap. they work, but they’re not shielded enough. my video image has some light static, similar to an old VHS tape where you can adjust with tracking. i’m not complaining about this, the video does the job and i’ll upgrade the cables on my own. any electronics will do this with too much electrical in close proximity as i definitely have in my office.

The instruction manual is definitely laughable. i tossed it and decided to plug them in locally (in my lap) and test everything on my own before wiring permanently. They worked, but tinkering with the DVR is going to be some serious trial and error. Networking won’t be a problem for me, but I salute anyone with no networking experience attempting it. I was tempted to return this product on behalf of this manual alone. I can tell you without a doubt. I gave in, hooked it up, and i’m satisfied with it. for the price, it’s not in the cheap useless category and the next price up gets into expensive range for me. they do the job, no telling if they break in 6 months, but i’m fine with the risk for the price ratio. so far so good for me. again, if you need to identify people or “license plates” (seriously?) then this is not for you. for simple eyes in the yard, no intent on catching anything (but bonus if you do), don’t expect useful quality to hand over to law enforcement, but it can confirm the event happened and possibly pick up a car or clothing or other nonsense that will likely never be caught by authorities anyway. Watching the yard for kids playing, spouse in the garden, delivery truck arriving, sketchy door-to-door salesmen (why i purchased), the product is outstanding. love it so far, minus the garbage documentation.

    Hope this helps.

    A good buy, 1 Dec. 2015

    Amazon Customer (UK) –

I’m quite impressed with this product. I bought the 2 cameras and 1TB hard disk option. I wanted to use the CCTV to cover the front driveway of my house.

First problem was getting someone to install it as it’s beyond my capabilities to drill through a house wall. Lots of tradesmen/security installers were not interested as they didn’t supply the equipment. Fair enough. I finally found a reputable chap via Check-a-Trade.

He was a security system installer. He said it was a good system and the type he would have recommended for my needs anyway. Took him about an hour (in appalling weather) to mount the two cameras at the front of my house.

Plugged all the leads in, hdmi lead to the tv, followed the quick start instructions and hey-presto, the camera feed was on my tv and being recorded.

There’s also an app so I can monitor it via my mobile or you can log in via a PC. The PC was the most troublesome bit. I eventually deduced the website/feed won’t work on Chrome or IE but it came up straight away on Firefox.

The images are clear and in colour in the day. At night it’s B&W and great for close ups. This isn’t the kit you need to see across a road and get a licence plate. But if you want to check out who is prowling round where they shouldn’t be on your property, this will give you a decent enough image.

    Very Good, 17 April 2016

    Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I work as an electrician and have fitted several brand name CCTV kits in the past, commercial and domestic and the cost of these kits are at least twice as much as this KARE one, with the commercial kits cost up to five time as much. The overall build quality is very good. The functionality of the DVR is very good with an easy to use menu structure that can be controlled via the buttons on the front panel of the DVR or via the USB mouse that’s also included in the kit.
The kit that I bought came with two dome cameras, one at 3.6mm and one at 6mm lens. I prefer to use dome cameras as they a lot more vandal proof and less intrusive within the environment. The 3.6 mm lens gives you a wide view but with lower definition which allows you to cover a large area and the 6mm lens gives you a narrow view but with higher definition i.e. the 6mm lens can be thought as a fixed zoom lens that will allow you to view greater distances. There is a sticker on each of the cameras at the rear that tells you what kind of lens they are to avoid confusion.
The image quality is very good especially the night view vision, Like I said I’ve fitted devices that cost allot more than these in the past but don’t perform as good as these on night vision.
The DVR comes with a fitted 1TB hard drive that will give you about two weeks of recorded footage if the DVR is set on continues record. This can be increased by upgrading the hard drive or setting the DVR to record only on motion detect or scheduled recording periods. The DVR comes factory set to overwrite the old data once the hard drive becomes full.
The set up for standalone viewing and recording is very straight forward; however I did have some issues when trying to view the cameras via 3G or over the internet. The issue itself was with the Smartphone APP that the instruction tells you to use and not the DVR itself.
The instruction advice you to use the APP “XMEYE” but I had difficulties viewing the cameras over the internet but it would work fine on WiFi, which isn’t much use.
However the DVR vendor does offers very good after sales technical support and this issue was resolved very quickly by using a different smart phone APP “vMEyeSuper”.
As far as I know the “XMEYE” APP stopped working after a software upgrade, which tends to happen with quite a few APPS.
There is an ID tab in the device details menu in “vMEyeSuper” at the bottom that allows you to enter the serial number of you DVR, which will then mean that you can view your cameras on 3G or over the internet. This worked allot better for me.
Overall I am very happy with this product so far for the price I paid.
