CRPF DG reviews unrest, Mata Vaishno Devi security

JAMMU, Sept 25: CRPF Director General K Durga Prasad today reviewed security situation in Jammu region with senior officers of the para-military force. He also visited International Border (IB) in RS Pura sector.
Prasad had high-level review of situation prevailing in Jammu region with senior officers of CRPF at the headquarters of para-military force this morning. Though there had been no major impact of 79-day long Kashmir unrest in Jammu region, small protests took place earlier in some parts in which CRPF along with local police had played major role.
Senior officers of the CRPF in Jammu briefed Prasad on the prevailing situation in the hinterland as well as borders and the CRPF role to deal with protests in certain areas of Jammu region.
Sources said Prasad called upon the CRPF to maintain high degree of alert in the areas of their deployment and assist the civil administration in maintenance of law and order, wherever and whenever required.
The CRPF chief visited Octroi Post on the International Border in RS Pura sector and inter-acted with the BSF commanders to acquaint himself with situation prevailing on the frontiers.
Earlier in the day, he visited Mata Vaishno Devi ji shrine, where he reviewed security situation of the shrine with senior officers of CRPF and police.
CRPF along with Reasi and Katra police manned security at Katra, the base camp of the shrine, 13 kilometers track and Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Bhawan.

Apart from senior CRPF officers from Jammu, the Force Commandants from Katra and Bhawan also joined the CRPF chief and briefed him on the situation.
The CRPF officers also gave detailed briefing to the DG on steps take to maintain security at holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi Ji at base camp of Katra, 13-kilometers track, Adh-Kunwari, Bhawan, Bhairon Ghati and other places.
Durga Prasad also paid obeisance to Goddess Vaishno Devi, where security is always on high alert.
The CRPF chief issued directions to the Commandants on maintenance of security at Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Bhawan, Katra and other places especially during upcoming Navratras.
The CRPF has been manning internal security in Jammu and Kashmir for past quite some time now along with Jammu and Kashmir Police.

The CRPF, sources said, is playing crucial role to curb 79-day long unrest in the Valley in which large number of para-military personnel have been injured.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has already deployed several additional battalions of the CRPF in the Valley to control the situation while retaining additional forces sent to Jammu and Kashmir during annual pilgrimage of Lord Amarnath ji shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas.
According to sources, the CRPF DG also reviewed the situation in the Kashmir valley especially with reference to Kashmir unrest with senior officers.

While Army and Border sk© Security SAVER SALE Force (BSF) were manning Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) respectively, the CRPF was deployed in internal areas of Kashmir, which have been hit by the unrest, to assist Jammu and Kashmir Police in curbing the protests.
