A security guard shot a couple after they mistakenly crashed their SUV into a check-cashing store, according to police.

The incident happened in the 700 block of Maxey Road around 3 a.m. According to police, the man driving the SUV was trying to park but mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake, crashing his vehicle through the store glass.

Police said the security guard inside the store believed the store was about to be robbed so he pulled out his gun and began shooting at the people in the SUV.

The man was struck in the neck and his female passenger was shot in the stomach and arm. The man reversed the car and drove two blocks to his apartment.

Police said the man called 911 and both victims were transported to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

The security guard was not hurt.
