When this torch arrived I was keen to see how it compared with the U2 version of the Fenix TK35. Both have the XM-L T6 LED fitted, but the TK35 runs on 2 18650 batteries (claiming about 860 lumens) and this little torch on just one 18650, claiming 1000 lumens.
While the light it produces is good, there’s no way it’s as good as the TK35 – but then the TK35 does cost four times as much, and takes two batteries. When I tried two CR123 batteries in this torch it improved things a bit, but it’s still not as bright as the twin battery TK35.

I’m sure this torch IS capable of whatever the book says the XM-L T6 is capable of, however it seems to be dependant on the battery used, and there’s no way of applying the voltage you’d need to get 860 lumens, and even then, I don’t know whether the heat sink would be able to take this much power for so long.

So all in all, a great little torch – if it was advertised as 400 or 500 lumens I think that would be more representative of the sort of light you get out of it. It’s certainly very bright, but just not comparable with the TK35 or similar.

The great thing about it is that as it’s obviously running the LED at a relatively low level, it is working more efficiently in terms of lumens/watt (LEDs are more efficient if not being driven hard) so will probably run for a couple of hours even on high setting – haven’t tested this yet though.

The quality of this torch far exceeded my expectations and I had no problems with it. Worked straight out of the box. To me it seems pretty much identical to a Surefire, but only a fraction of the cost. I ordered a second torch soon after the first and am now thinking about ditching all my other torches and replacing them with this model. One in the car, the van, the house, etc.. I love this product!
